Shafts Of Sunlight

Entries: 78 Votes: 906 Ends On: 01 Aug 2011

Started on: June 1st, 2011 Ended on: August 1st, 2011

PRIZE

Let's see sunlight in tangible shafts. 18th century Dutch painters would part the clouds and let the 'fingers of God' comb through life on earth below. In the forests, the shafts of light come alive under the tree boughs as the sun beams through the leafy canopy.  On farms, in dusty stables and straw mows, the sunlight cuts through the cracks in the barn boards. In each fissure there are billions of tiny dust particles and the light stream looks like a solid object.  Dawn, dusk, twilight, or high noon, crispy shafts of natural sunlight can make magnificent photo subjects.

Upload your shafts and let the membership appraise their glory! Submitted photos can be taken indoors as sunlight cuts through a room, glimmering and reflecting off human faces, water or furniture, or outdoors, as it illuminates the world around us - this photo contest requires imagination and skill.

The prize is a Sony DSCH70 Camera, sponsored by sunrooms in Ontario Canada

I agree Will This is the ghost contest that has been haunting the widget for seventy days... or more. But its only appeared in competition June 1st. Tell me, do you think admin should delete RinTinTinny's chiuauha because there's no obvious 'shafts' of sunlight?
Tell us people what do you think? Should Lenzr go hard on this one and say you gotta have a shaft to stay in the game?

no shaft, no game

all pics should definately show shafts!, otherwise what is the point of all your work to have themes, etc, to my eye the pis posted by: jesustiggerfreak, photos_12 (tree pic), rin tin tinny, and mr salva do not have 'shafts', but yet they are nice pics and mr. salva's in particular is a beautiful pic due to back lighting (sun) and shadows, but no shafts, so ya sure, screen the pics to ensure they are within theme. Similary in 'Glourious Colours' contest theme asks specifically for sunsets but the pic by Will (while interesting) is not a sunset.

already lots of very nice pics being posted, good luck everyone.

ya i agree. it would be cool if we could check a box to receive notifications. I didn't know you replied to my comment until I went back to look.

I agree and have deleted my entree. Well will look for some alternatives, plenty of time. I just don't want to be in the position when I was surprise myself to see in top 10 of "Shiny Metal Surfaces" contest photo of plastic lamps. Good tip.

I also put suggestion in the forum, which is become recently available. Over here: http://www.lenzr.com/forums/topic/8-increasing-winning-chances-should-everyone-have-equal-chance/
Would love to hear comments on that one as this discussion is much active than on the forum.
Good luck to all.

Oh well look how this comment depository has grown here since I've been gone - yes notifications would be nice .
Mr Slava you are a gentleman to the core. Your generosity and passion is noted and your name is very familiar in our office. Okay I'm going to go and delete some pictures and then I'll be sure and visit Mr Slava's thread in the SUGGESTIONS category of the new Lenzr forum.

I would not think lens flare or shadows would qualify as shafts of light. Oh well if it is a voting contest it does not matter.
mr_slava June 13th, 2011 1:40pm
Funny enough I didn’t find any photo with strong sunlight shafts :( As mention "mariposaman", I have plenty of choice with lens flare as majority of the photos submitted; a couple of light shafts of the sky hardly seen, that I couldn’t increase even in "lightroom"; and non as good as submissions of "lemming", "aldorn", "Martin Savaria" or "kevyn2992". So I pass this one and will vote for everyone!

Beautiful photos everyone.

Yes its a lens flare exercise I guess. Oh well - BE WARNED I will pull any photo without a shaft or a flare or a band of bright sunlight in the foreground!
billythekid July 26th, 2011 7:43pm
Voting issue - Same problem here (see comment on Counting Exercise). I thought it was strange so many photos had "Zero" votes...
