do photoshop'd photos like LadyDutchs qualify? just curious.
bobbyc November 21st, 2011 7:28pm
yes. we've covered this ground before and using clip art etc seems to be crossing the line , but mild shopping is allowed? I think ... we'll see what wrath this comment provokes? The Lenzr Judges know anyway. They know.

well. when the photochop makes up more then 50 percent of a baloney sandwich..... RELEASE THE HOUNDS.
tluvr November 25th, 2011 7:23pm
@aupdates, I agree, photoshopping for brightness, contrast, cropping etc is generally accepted in mostly all photo contests. Composite photoshopping is a different realm all together, I believe it is 'art', but it is not a photographic 'picture'. Perhaps Lenzr can run a challenge sometime for strictly photoshopped or composite images.
kevyn2992 November 28th, 2011 12:47pm
Yeah thats a tough question to weigh in on, there are a few photo's that have been manipulated and spliced together via photoshop software. Some obvious compositing, some more subtle, but how much is too much?? And I see the merit of the questioning of members in that, "should it be allowed?". Maybe there needs to be ammendments to the rules of entry made bt the admin, because as of right now there is no stated position from Lenzr as to how much digital manipulation is allowed, and what is over the top. In the future maybe the rules change through dialouge & mutual agreement between user and admin but for now It would seem that in the absence of any clearly stated rule, i think you have to allow these photo's to compete.

Just my two cents.... but again, it's hard to quantify whats allowable and what isn't in terms of digital alterations... so eaither i think you have to allow all, or allow none (in terms of adding entirely new elements to photo's)... because trying to find the gray area where photo's fall between may cause controversy, and be a difficult task for the admin/judges

@tluvr, I like your point…it's artistic, but not a photo. (maybe I'm just jealous as a beginner??) Cropping and exposure are about my limitations. I do admire some of the images that have been posted!

The Lenzr Judges know and most can spot a touched-up photo from the thumbnail. It seems to me they prefer pictures that are natural. I prefer pictures that are storyfull so for example I like the shot of the parliament buildings and apartment buildings on the computer card, even though its obvious manipulation. Just my two cents.

Photoshop can be the equivalent of traditional collage (digitally), but that is pushing the boundary of the title `photography` towards graphic design or even traditional art- just my take on it.

Im basing my submissions on only what I can see through my camera`s viewfinder- cropping, exposure, levels ect. I think are acceptable, I would even say technically burn/dodge tool might be pushing the traditional envelope of a 'photograph'.

I guess its up to the judges from here on in, and how much the theme shines through the photos, manipulated or not.

*nail biting*

A lot of the same contributors here. I'm biting my nails hoping the photo limiting script is in place before voting starts on the 15th of Dec
MistressLisa December 8th, 2011 5:59pm
Um, exactly HOW many entries are allowed per person?!
cameleon December 9th, 2011 1:31pm
There is only one winner among all the images. So I think that the theme and picture quality is important and not the number of photos per participant , I do not want to criticize the way the image is selected in this competition, but I think that all pictures should have the same chance, and not just 10 of them ;)
bobbyc December 10th, 2011 10:09am
Mistress Lisa. There is no limit - but hopefully there will be a photo limiter script that limits each member to just one top ten image... Otherwise I will have to email members with more than one present here and ask which of their images I can delete from the Top Ten competition. And that blows
Cameleon. You are quite right. But to ask the Judges to review 70 images per contest would be ... unthinkable. They are volunteers for the most part, and I have to prod them to do it as it is - remember they read all the Descriptions too, its not just a visual exercise. HOWEVER that being said I think the top ten should be 10 % and not just ten images . If there are 150 submission then there should be 15 images etc.
Also as you can all see we are getting hit hard with spam bots from Asia, and so we are probably going to suspend all comments functions except the forum for a spell until Lenzr can afford to buy more dev to remedy that.
Thanks for participating everyone. and Good Luck!

I think it would lead to less overall submissions from the same person if one were able to delete/replace photos that have ended up in the shadows of newer shots. And it would be convenient to be able to replace a photo you pushed a little too far into saturation land. I like the idea of being able to share a bunch of shots, get some feedback and then narrow down the decision for a submission.
cameleon December 11th, 2011 12:51pm
Do not forget that this is a contest for photos and not for the photographers. Question is who wins: photo or photographer? The answer: both. Despite everything, it's just a game. Good luck to all.:)))
