PRIZE

Beekeeping in Roseneath Ontario, Canada, honey production, annual harvest,This time of year, no matter where you live in Canada, you come across the annual harvest. September and October are all about people collecting the rewards of a spring planting, and a summer’s worth of weeding, watering and nurturing. At harvest time we come together to reap the cornucopia of goodness that is nature’s bounty. You don’t have to live out in the country to see it, because the season happens all around us. Neighborhood kids picking ripe fruit from sidewalk trees and seniors digging potatoes are all harvesting nature in Canada.

Canadian Harvest, brand personality from a business storytellerCondo dwellers picking peppers on rooftop gardens, or men in yellow raincoats wading waist deep in bright red cranberry ponds would be awesome submissions. Or boys digging clams in PEI, or a fresh catch in Newfoundland, or people harvesting the fruit laden trees in Niagara on the Lake… we want to see them all!

The sponsor, reknown business storyteller and brand personality consultant, Nora Camps of Duo.ca needs only one masterful image for a print project concerning Canada’s annual harvest. You can get more insight into Nora Camps on the Lenzr blog.

The winning image will be licensed, and Nora respectfully asks to be the one to select this image from the Top Ten user ranked grouping. Nora will give the photographer full credit and $400 for an exclusive license for perpetuity throughout the universe for the one photo she selects.

There are some really great harvest pictures in this contest! I'm amazed that there are no pictures from last Sunday's FOODSTOCK. All the produce, prepared by 100 chef's, was harvested from Melancthon Township, about 90 minutes north of Toronto. Approximately 30,000 people came together to support the 'Stop The Mega Quarry' movement. Could the largest quarry in North America be built in your province? Share pictures and leave comments.

Those beautiful glass jars that preserve the harvest bounty for the winter ahead. I decided to give preserving a try. Eleven hours over two days and at least ninety dollars later I had 22 jars of red peppers with aubergine in my cold storage. I have a completely new appreciation for the effort of canning. Now when I see preserved goods at the farmers market, I appreciated the care, the materials and the sheer time that went into producing that jar of peaches, or butternut squash soup, or pickles, asparagus...and at $7 each - it's a fair price. Any more pictures of canning, preserving, pickling to share?
